Virtual stock judging success

Our first ever online stock judging competition was won by
Gus McLachlan, with Hillary Cooper runner-up.
The opportunity to judge four heifers online via the
Facebook platform was offered to all NZ Hereford Youth
members in 2021; this was an opportunity to brush up on
judging skills and public speaking skills. We encouraged
participants to ask a mentor to guide them and make it a
real learning experience.

The competition followed the RAS scoring system, the only ANNUAL BULL SALE 28 MAY 2022
difference being participants viewed videos online. Thank
you to the Waikaka Hereford team for allowing us to use their
heifers and to Steph Paterson for filming them. VENUE: Condons Road, Mahitahi, South Westland
With more than 30 entries and a high calibre of results, over
judges Stuart and Maria Robbie had a tough job to pick their
winners. They were impressed with how well the competitors
went about speaking to their placings, and commented, “We

to a very high standard. You can all be proud of your efforts.
Judging becomes easier with accumulated experience and
knowledge. So keep up the good work.”
