gave an overview of the farming operation before everyone
viewed the sale bulls, mixed-aged cows, and heifers.
The final stop for the day was beautiful Mahinepua Bay for
afternoon tea, before the visitors returned to Paihia for their
final evening in Northland.
Overall, the jet lag tour proved to be a great introduction
to Herefords in New Zealand and a prelude to the main WHC
event. The camaraderie of Hereford breeders from all over
the world was evident throughout the two days, which were
thoroughly enjoyed by locals and guests alike.
The effects of Northland’s long, hot, dry summer could be
seen in the parched countryside, but the cattle viewed were
a credit to the Hereford breed in coping with the challenging
summer conditions.
The Irish youth team were fantastic ambassadors for their
country and their enthusiasm impressed all who met them. Their Learning about Kiwi bush and the giant Kauri – the symbol
example showed the future of the breed is in good hands. of Northland.
