The McWilliams’ Te Taumata Stud was successful, with
its purebred Hereford entry (13) winning the Overall Supreme
Champion Steer on the Hoof, superbly led by Ella McWilliam,
and then the Overall Land Meat Heavyweight Purebred Steer.
PGG Wrightson Overall (Hoof and Hook) Reserve Champion
Lightweight Steer went to a Tuna Nui steer (15), and PGG
Wrightson Overall Champion Lightweight Steer to the Donald
family (36), the steer also going on to become the B+LNZ
Reserve Supreme Grand Champion Steer 2019.
In addition, it was great to see so many Hereford youth
performing with such confidence and knowledge. The
interviewers regularly commented on the top calibre of
intermediates (all 52 of them!) coming through the system – an
age group where Hereford youth are dominant.
Some Hereford youth achievements included: Georgina
Donald second Junior NZHA Handlers, Niamh Barnett third
Intermediate Open Handlers, Georgina Donald third Junior
Gallagher modules, Georgia Moody second Intermediate
Gallagher modules, and Lisa Bonenkamp second equal Senior
Gallagher modules.
NZHA wishes the Future Beef 2020 World Hereford
Conference Team – sponsored by Kaitoa Herefords and
consisting of Lucy Collin, Callum Woodhouse, Georgia
Rhodes and Cara Doggett – all the best in the Young Breeder
Competition. We expect there will be some healthy rivalry
between both New Zealand teams.
