        Hook and Hoof Competition 2019




        It was fantastic to see so many competitors at the Future Beef   Champion went to a Tuna Nui (15) steer and PGG Wrightson
        weekend which was held at their new venue, Masterton A & P   Overall Lightweight Champion steer to the Donald family (36)
        showgrounds. Once again Hereford breeders and supporters   which went on to win the B+L Supreme Reserve Champion
        seemed to dominate the event.                         Steer 2019.
        Special congratulations to Chrissina and Bruce Donald   In addition, it was great to see so many Hereford Youth performing
        (Ngakouka) who had an  excellent  weekend,  which was well   with such confidence and knowledge. The interviewers regularly
        deserved by their daughters, Georgina, Molly and Hannah who   commented on the top calibre of intermediates (all 52 of them!)
        not only broke in steers for themselves but also extras for other   coming through the system – an age group where Hereford
        competitors.                                          Youth are  dominant.  Some  of  the achievements included:
        With their entry, 36, they won the Gallagher Lightweight cross   Georgina Donald 2nd Junior NZHA Handlers, Niamh Barnett
        bred steer overall, whilst their other entry (38) became the overall   3rd Intermediate Open Handlers, Georgina Donald 3rd Junior
        Allflex Reserve Champion Heavy weight steer.          Gallagher modules and Georgia Moody 2nd Intermediate
        Also, the McWilliams were extremely successful with their   Gallagher modules, and Lisa Bonenkamp 2nd Senior Gallagher
        pure bred Hereford entry (13) winning the Supreme Champion   modules. Finally, congratulations to the young and exuberant
        steer on the hoof superbly led by Ella McWilliam, and then the   FBNZ committee for managing a fantastic event and also to
        Landmeat Heavy weight pure bred steer overall.        Cara Doggett for winning the Senior Allflex NZ Ambassador for
        PGG  Wrightson  Overall  (Hoof  and  Hook), Lighweight  Reserve   2019. NZHA wishes her all the best for an exiting year ahead.
