programme means a surplus of quality in-calf females and
elite yearling bulls are made available to other Hereford
breeders every year. Colin says the two studs are immensely
proud of seeing genetics used as a foundation for new herds
in the South Auckland club area, such as Hoobees, Sarona and
Hikamora, and the relationships formed with these breeders
starting out in the Hereford breed.
Andrew says one of the big reasons the CK partnership has
worked so well over the 10 years to date is that since day one,
Colin and Andrew will walk into a paddock of Herefords, be
it their own cows or another stud’s sale bulls, and they will
independently mark the same animals as the picks of the mob.
The future for CK Herefords also looks bright, with the next
generation of Russos and Corneys showing an interest in
cattle and enjoying time on the farms. Maternal strength is obvious at Kanuka.
