AWARD-WINNING SHEEP

The Patersons’ prowess at producing top quality fine wool is
well known through the many national awards scooped over
the years. Champion prize ribbons from various A&P shows and
events adorn Matakanui Station’s woolshed walls.
Most recently Andrew and Tracy were recipients of the
Canterbury A&P Show Dakins Ambassador of the Year
award, acknowledging their loyal and successful support of the
wool section.
Long-term contracts have been secured for wool and meat,
which the Patersons say is one way of future-proofing their
farming business. They recently secured a 10-year contract with
Icebreaker through Merino New Zealand, and hope to increase
the quantity of meat and wool supplied to Icebreaker as well as
SmartWool, and Silere contracts.

RIGHT: Polwarths and fine wool production are a long-held passion
for the Paterson family.
