NZH COUNCIL
                    2022-2023

          Committee

          President Gray Pannett

          Vice-President Robert Peacock

          Council Alan Cook Manager’s Report
                        Colin Corney
Chris Jeffries Posy Moody | General Manager NZH
                        Robert Kane
                        Eileen McWilliam
Willy Muir It was extremely disappointing not to have the breed dinner
Laurie Paterson (HP) and National Sale, but we were fortunate to have nearly a full
Andrew Russo house at the council meeting with only one councillor missing
Philip Shepherd due to Covid. Suzanne and I really enjoyed seeing the council at
the May meeting. It was the first time the NZ Herefords board
sat in person for over a year and the first opportunity for the
board to meet Suzanne who replaced Christine in February. The
board continued their development with a short session on
communication and then spent the remaining one and half days
discussing strategical opportunities and potential risks which NZ
Herefords are likely to face. The choices of genetic evaluations
and the options on offer are increasing yearly, which in turns
allows the board to evaluate which is the best path NZ Herefords
should take for long term sustainability and success.

It was a joy to have the youth leadership group join the board
at the end of day one. They brought enthusiasm to the board
table with an optimistic view of the future. For members who
believe ‘sustainability’ and ‘environmentalism’ are woke, you
only need to listen to the youth for a few minutes to realise
they’ve accepted those terms as part of their future; they are
Editor: Posy Moody, NZH not threatened by them but see them as additional factors

bull sales all the best. It takes time, energy and money to get
bulls to the ring with the best genetics you have to offer and
looking their best, with the outcome not always certain, however
with the knowledge that several studs are celebrating their 50th
www.herefords.co.nz year provides supportive evidence you are on the right track!
