Willy Muir I’m sure I talk on behalf of all of us, that our hearts go
Laurie Paterson (HP) out to the breeder’s whose Spring sales were affected
Andrew Russo by the August covid lockdown announcement. For
Philip Shepherd those breeders who were affected during May and
June in 2020, they would have felt your pain!
As I write, another very successful Spring bull sale, focused to
the dairy market, has just finished. The trend currently seems to
be similar to last year, with a few studs being either up by $100
or $200 on their yearling average, with the exception of Riverton
which improved their average by $600, with a clearance of 102
yearlings. Congratulations to Les, Mike, and Cath and their three
children, who were all helping. The agents didn’t have time to
draw breath!
I have several articles, targeted at dairy media, published over
the last few months, hoping to educate their readers on the new
Dairy Beef index as well as the revised Boehringer Ingelheim
Dairy Merit Sire awards. The changes were explained in detail in
the last edition of Hooked on Herefords.
The committee members like yourself have been busy calving
and lambing, but we will be holding subcommittee meetings
Editor: Posy Moody, NZH shortly in preparation for the November council meeting. The
Address: PO Box 503, Feilding 4740 semen committee have however been working over the last
Phone: 06 323 4484 couple of months identifying a suitable bull to replace two old
bulls currently at LIC supplying semen to the beef pack. To read
DDI: 06 323 0745 more about it refer to page 6 .
Email: office@herefords.co.nz With it nearly being time to put your bulls out, please refresh
your knowledge on Days to Calving and how you can improve
your recording – read page 8.
Lastly Christine and I are working on an updated database
with Harry’s help. We hope to firstly improve the accuracy of
www.herefords.co.nz member contact information we hold, and secondly use it more
effectively in ‘member engagement’. What does this mean for
www.herefordprime.co.nz you? Closer to Christmas be prepared to be transferred to the NZ
Hereford office while we confirm your details and have a quick
chat if you have time. It may also be an excellent opportunity for
you to tell us what you like/don’t like about the communication
we have with you e.g. too many emails/not enough, and whether
www.facebook.com/nzherefords feel you are being informed of staff and council’s actions. We are
certainly looking forward to having more communication with
many members who we rarely talk to.
Regards,
Posy
