Future Beef NZ
Hook and Hoof Competition 2018
It is encouraging for the Association to see so many young
breeders associated to the Hereford breed competing at this
year’s Future Beef competition held at Manfeild Stadium in May.
The event was a fantastic success with all the children meeting
new like-minded people, having fun all weekend and learning
some valuable lessons at the same time.

Heavy Weight Steer, Hoof (led by Ella McWilliam) pictured below
and Sophie Langtry for winning the Champion Light Weight
Steer judged on the Hoof (led by Georgia Moody) with the
overall Champion Steer (Hoof) awarded to the McWilliams and
Reserve to Sophie Langtry.
Hook results were equally rewarding to the Hereford breeders,
with Ngakouka Herefords awarded Reserve Champion Steer
on the Hook and also winning Overall Purebred Steer with the
McWilliams winning overall NZ Heavy Weight Purebred Steer.
The intermediate girls also placed well in the Beef Handling and
Stock Judging competitions and were excellent ambassadors
for the breed.
The Future Beef Committee would like to thank all the Hereford Ella McWilliam (Te Taumata)
breeders that supported the event. With her “Lake Station Grand Champion Steer” Hook
