Mokairau Farm Open Day

Congratulations to the Reeves Family on winning the 2018 Gisborne-
Wairoa Hill Country Farmer of the Year Award.
This farm has been in the Reeves Family since 1926. Peter and Christine
now farm in conjunction with their son’s Sam, Jon, Richard and Matthew;
and son-in-law Nicky Land. Mokairau Farm comprises 2867 hectares,
2288 ha effective and run 22,000 stock units – sheep and cattle, which
includes their Hereford Stud.
The Open Day held on 22nd May was well attended. The importance
of the cattle operation was shown as integral to enabling the farming
operation to achieve their goals. The operation was impressive, from
station to staff, and highlighted great HR skills.
Peter recently had a motorbike accident on the farm, where the
importance of a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was highlighted, an
informative visit from the Rescue Helicopter pilot pressed home the

Texas onto a 5 day tour organized by P J Budler and included members
from NZ, Australia, Canada and Europe, visiting horned and
polled Hereford Studs and Universities around Texas.
A group of NZ Hereford Breeders, which included Robert Kane, The NZ group hired a car and drove through Okalahoma, Kansas,
Eoin McKerchar, Colin Gibson and Stuart Robbie travelled to Nebraska and Colorado seeing a lot of very interesting cattle.
Fort Worth, Texas, to attend the Champions of the World Show. We’re sure if you get the chance, Robert, Eoin, Colin and Stuart
The group spent 2 days attending the Show and then moved would be happy to share their travel story with you.
