            Wilencote Herefords, Gisborne topped the East Coast   In the north of the North Island, Te Puna and Moana Studs

                                                                East Coast in the southern Hawke’s Bay/Wairarapa there were a
                                                                number of good clearances and prices. Glenbrae Herefords sold
                                                                all 27 bulls to average $6700 and a top of $11,000, Ngakouka
                                                                Herefords sold 16 bulls for an increased average of $6000 and
                                                                a top of $8000, Te Taumata sold 15 bulls for an average of
                                                                $5880 and a top of $7000, while Otapawa Herefords averaged
                                                                $6711 on 26 bulls sold. Over in Taranaki, Tawanui Herefords
                                                                of the Downs family continued to build their reputation, with
                                                                an improved average of $8472 and an impressive top price of

                                                                  On the West Coast of the South Island, Flagstaff Herefords
          BELOW: The top priced horned bull for the year was    sold 18 bulls for an average of $5143 on 18 bulls sold. Matatoki
          Locharburn Mort 142 at $37,000.                       Herefords sold six bulls to average $4583, while Orari Gorge
                                                                Herefords had an average of $7430 and a top of $14,000, both
                                                                of which were up on last year. Capethorne Herefords sold a full
                                                                clearance of 10 bulls to average a high $8400, with a top price
                                                                of $15,000 for Capethorne 1772, who sold to Bexley Herefords,
                                                                Awakino. Pourakino Downs sold 15 strong Horned Herefords
                                                                for an average of $5533 and a top price of $15,000.
                                                                  Other sales in the South Island included Stoneburn averaging
                                                                $7250 and a top of $12,500, Waiau at $5470, Waikaka at
                                                                $5400, and Foulden Hills at $5444.
                                                                  Spring sales of mostly yearling bulls again had high clearance
                                                                rates and good average prices.
