MENDIP HILLS STATION
Mendip Hills Station is the programme’s 6100ha flagship
Hereford property in North Canterbury. It is a leading farm for
good cow herd management and farm profitability.
Each year, about 400 cows and 100 heifers from its 1150
breeding cow herd are inseminated to Hereford bulls and some
       Charolais bulls.
Former Mendip Hills assistant manager Hamish Gibb says
three messages have come through clearly. “When I go to a bull
sale I know the EBVs work. The better condition your herd is at
mating, the higher the pregnancy rate. And AI isn’t as much work
as you think – especially for the genetic gain you make.”
