Milk the Meat
The interactive Milk the Meat field day at the Koch’s farm
encouraged dairy farmers to use registered Hereford bulls.
With a genetic pool of 20,000 recorded cattle, NZ Herefords
is well placed to assist with farms wanting to make the most of
the young male calves.
Information included the benefits of buying registered
bulls, and working through the different traits for the beef
industry compared with the dairy industry, and how they’re
presented.
The Kochs and fellow breeder/dairy farmer Willy Muir spoke
to the field day attendees about how they pick which bulls to
use, what bulls were guaranteed safe for use over dairy heifers,
and the reason to use registered bulls over unregistered,
including predictability in colouring and uniformity. NZ Herefords president Gray Pannett speaks to the field day
