We then purchased our 35ha in Pyes Pa – still not quite big
enough, but fantastic to have all our animals in one place. As
time has gone on we have purchased some great bulls from
Ardo and Craigmore, and the latest from Maranui. They’ve all
left their mark in our herd and it’s quite amazing to see the
           change in type.
Remember that comment about me smoking when I was
younger? At 55 I became seriously ill with pneumonia and
emphysema, spending days in Rotorua’s ICU. I finally gave
up smoking and luckily, became part of the lung transplant
programme. In November 2014 I was finally sick, skinny and
fit enough to go on the waiting list. I got the call about two
weeks later, and eight years on, here I am.
Since being on this farm, I have not been as useful as I used
to be because it’s quite steep in places and driving the tractor Homebred bull Pukenui Nice Guy 1803. The stud also has two
does not give me warm fuzzies. Bryan retired, but continues to Maranui two-year-old bulls as current sires.
be a workaholic, doing great things around the place and most
           of the stock and feeding.
I love to spend time with the cows and still really enjoy
yard work and riding around watching them eat grass, but
since June [2022] when Covid put me in hospital for six days,
nothing in my body works all that well. I now have a number
           of Long Covid symptoms.
Bryan has gone from just feeding and moving cows to
actually noticing and knowing who’s who and how well they’re
           doing, which is great.
We live in a beautiful spot, the cows are awesome, and we
have all returning customers, some for more than twenty
           years or more.
Sheryl says 40 cows is a manageable number for the stud.
