The top average for the 2017 spring selling season was
Mahuta Herefords, South Auckland, with a clearance of all 50
yearling bulls catalogued for an average of $3744. A number
of bulls specifically bred for dairy heifer mating sold particularly
well, with a top price of $8000 obtained for a stud transfer,
selling to Koanui Polled Herefords.
Kokonga Herefords sold a larger catalogue of 50 bulls in
2017 to an average of $2870, with the two top bulls selling for
$6200 and $6000 respectively.
Bushy Downs Herefords, Te Awamutu, sold 67 two-year-
old bulls for an average of $2950 and 25 yearling bulls for a
$2250 average.
Newcastle Herefords held their last yearling bull sale, selling Okahu X-Factor achieved the third top price for 2017, selling at the
19 bulls with a top of $5000. New Zealand National Show and Sale at Beef Expo for $30,000.
Kairaumati Herefords, Coromandel, continued to grow on
previous sales with 25 18-month bulls selling to average $2992 In the Far North sales included Otengi/Waimaire selling 70
and top at $4500, and 19 yearling bulls to average $2408 and bulls and Matapouri selling 134 yearling and two-year-old bulls
top at $4800. to average $2861.
Hukaroa Stud, Te Kauwhata, sold a large catalogue of bulls The Ezicalve sales again had good clearances and averages
with 83 yearling bulls averaging $2531. on both two-year-old and yearling bulls. Ardo Herefords
Hillcroft sold 30 bulls to average $2253, while Bexley Station averaged $3800 on two-year-olds sold and an impressive
Herefords achieved a $2728 average on 28 bulls sold, with a $3500 on yearlings, while Riverton Herefords averaged $3510
high price of $4600. on their two-year-olds and $3341 on the yearlings.
In Taranaki, Hurstpier and Horizon studs combined to sell In the South Island short gestation length specialists
all bulls put up for auction, with 17 Hurstpier bulls averaging Shrimpton’s Hill sold 152 bulls to average $3540 and a good
$2600 and 19 Horizon bulls averaging $2200. top price of $4600.
