Joshstar Herefords took home the prestigious Meat and Wool Cup at the Royal Show in Hamilton.
Steve and Lauren Morgan of Huntly received a round of applause when the award was made by a panel of three judges from across the beef classes at the show. The judges were Judy Smyth, Peter McWilliam and Marc Robertson.
It is the second year Joshstar have been presented with the cup for sire Awhea Immense – the supreme beef animal of the show. To be eligible for the Meat and Wool Cup, animals must first be judged supreme champion of the breed.
Hereford classes were exceptionally well supported being the biggest beef class at the show with exhibits from Willowspring, Colraine, Kanuka, Castle Douglas, Glendale and Joshstar studs.

Champion Hereford bull: Joshstar Awhea Immense
Grand champion male: Joshstar Awhea Immense
Supreme Champion Hereford: Joshstar Awhea Immense.
Hereford successes continued in the interbreeds and all breeds classes.
Joshstar’s Awhea Immense was placed first in the champion bull two years and over in interbreeds section (the champions of each breed) and Glendale Kansas was placed first in the champion yearling bull interbreeds section.
In the all breeds classes, Herefords continued to be prominent. Willowspring were placed first and fifth in the senior yearling heifer class. Kanuka were third in the two year old heifer class. Willowspring placed fourth in the cow three years and over and in the junior yearling heifer class Joshstar was placed second. In the bull two years and over class, Joshstar was placed first and Willowspring fifth and in the senior yearling bull class Glendale was placed second.
