1. Important Expo Information A NUMBER OF ADJUSTMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE FORMAT OF THE HEREFORD SHOW AND SALE FOR BEEF EXPO 2009. BELOW IS AN OUTLINE OF THE CHANGES ALL BREEDERS WISHING TO ENTER THE 2009 NATIONAL HEREFORD SHOW AND SALE NEED TO BE AWARE OF. Inspection:
All Hereford Beef Expo entries (excluding Super Sires) will be inspected by persons appointed by the NZHA Council. The cost of inspection will be shared and invoiced to all those entered at the completion of inspection. Any animal failing to make the catalogue due to that inspection will have its entry fee refunded but will still be subject to any inspection fees. Any decisions to deny entry will be at the full discretion of NZHA based on the inspectors recommendations. That decision will
be fnal.
DNA:
Sires of all Beef Expo entered animals must have been DNA profled. Please ensure that any bulls that have been used at stud have the relevant DNA profle.
Animal Health:
Changes have been made to the animal health regulations for Beef Expo entries.
BVD
Compulsory Expo regulations apply to all entries. All animals must have been tested BVD antigen negative and have been vaccinated twice prior to Expo sale. The BVD vaccination declaration must be signed by the vendor (not necessarily a veterinarian) and the batch number of the vaccine batch administered supplied.
TB
All entries must have been tested within the 12 months prior to the National Hereford sale. If coming from a movement control area the animal must have been tested and cleared within 60 days of the sale in accordance with Animal Health Board regulations. Starter Pack
In Calf Heifers - entries restricted to one pair per vendor & subject to inspection. Hereford Expo Functions:
The VIP luncheon area will again go ahead. This concept was introduced to say thanks to the previous purchasers of Hereford genetics at the national show and sale and was such a success last year we’re doing it again. All members, with the exception of Expo exhibitors, will be required to purchase tickets for admission to enjoy a Hereford Prime BBQ and refreshments. The price of admission will be minimal. Please bring your bull buying clients along to enjoy the hospitality of NZ Herefords
and show your appreciation for their continued support.
The annual Hereford dinner will follow the conclusion of the Hereford auction and will be held upstairs in the Manfeild Park stadium. Planning of this function is underway and further details will follow. All silverware presentations from the show and sale will again be made at the dinner. Future Beef NZ All Breeds Female Sale: Future Beef NZ (FBNZ) is hosting an all breeds heifer sale on
Monday May 11, in conjunction with the
Meat & Wool NZ Beef Expo.
The sale is open to yearlings and two-year-olds (led or unled/in-calf) and the entered females will not be judged. Multiple entries in this event are welcome. It is proposed that the animals will be sold as part of a young auctioneer’s competition being run by FBNZ. The heifers in this auction will be sold by a FBNZ participant aged 18-25 that has been nominated by a stock and station frm to vie for the young auctioneer’s title. The PGG wrightson commission from the heifers sold will be donated to fBNZ. Please note there is no reserve and the upset price will be $1000. Entries in this sale are subject to the NZ Hereford Association Expo conditions of entry (including inspection) and the NZHA entry fee. Vendors are welcome to put a female entry in the All Breeds sale as well as the Hereford female show and sale. The entry fee is payable to NZHA. Please use the FBNZ entry form provided or for more information contact FBNZ executive member Mark Stevens on 06)323 4484. 2. Stakes High for HEREFORD ![]() Without doubt Bruce and Carolynn Robertson’s win in the cross-bred class at Steak of origin was a defning moment for Hereford’s and a timely reminder to our market that our beef is equal to the best. The Steak of Origin is a prestigious event but unfortunately in the past the winning entries have largely come from the breeds who have saturated the competition. In an effort to encourage greater participation from Hereford’s Sid Hain and John Morrison have organised sponsorship for a Hereford prize. The prize – a hamper worth about $1200 – will be presented to the Hereford Breeders Club that scores best in either the British breeds or the cross-bred class, or a combination of both those classes in the Steak of Origin competition 2009. The winning club will be the one who has the best score/placing for their top 10 entries. Entries must be a purebred Hereford or a frst cross Hereford and can be from any person living within the club’s region. This widest residential qualifcation is in the hope that Hereford breeders, will also encourage their clients and other fnishers of Hereford cattle to participate. The winning club will decide how they distribute or what they wish to do with the prize hamper. [Top] |
