Herefords win Champion of Champions
honour AGAIN in 2006
Keelryn Hustler 65 placed first at the 2006 National Hereford Show, was particularly sound in all attributes. Bred by John and Bernice Loveridge of the Keelryn Hereford Stud, Inglewood, Hustler 65 possessed a very balanced set of EBV figures and as NZ Herefords Senior Judge at Beef Expo 2006, Mr Ian Brown commented “any breeder could use this bull with high confidence in structure and profitable performance”. He went on to comment “It is always gratifying
to have your judging decisions ratified by Hustler realising the top price Hereford at the National Sale, selling at $17,000 to Koanui and Beanbah Hereford Studs, with Hustler then going on to win the PGG Wrightson Champion of Champions title”.
Judge Brown alludes to the fact that “I did set out to judge this years National Hereford Sale completely on structural soundness, Hereford type and potential productivity. My Associate Judge, Mr Doug Brown and myself did not consider EBV’s in our selection, as EBV’s alone will not select a bull with the attributes we were looking for. While our criteria did not always present themselves over all animals in a judging division, the bulls Doug and I
selected for first to forth placing in each class were extremely sound functional cattle of a very good type”.
A large but subdued gallery was present at the National Hereford sale. Following the trend of other breed sales at Beef Expo 2006, the Hereford sale average was down on the previous year, the average being $5180 with several passings noted . The absence of commercial buyers was apparent at all 2006 breed sales at Expo.
